What I loved about 2016
Oh 2016. What can we say about this year that hasn’t been said already.
The world has gone through such huge changes in these last 12 months; some good, some not so good. Myself included! Yet I’m happy to say that, in spite of everything, love has prevailed once again. We, as humans, regardless of our flaws, will always strive towards achieving one thing – to be happy.
And what makes humans happier than anything? Being with the one they love*.
(*And puppies.)
I wake up every day to find myself working in an industry that is ultimately shaped by the decisions of people in love deciding to spend the rest of their lives together. And every day I count myself lucky! The 1st January 2017 will be my 3rd year anniversary of working as a full time wedding photographer and I cannot believe how far I have come in a relatively short space of time. This year I hosted my 2nd photography workshop in Liverpool, I headed a bridal shoot at a photographers meeting for the illustrious ‘LooksLikeFilm’ group, I shot weddings in Spain, Italy and Barbados and second shot a wedding in Morocco, I travelled to New York to learn from some of the most amazing wedding photographers (I actually got to shoot alongside a photographer I have admired above all others for such a long time) and I met tonnes of wonderful people along the way. I literally cannot wait to see what 2017 has in store for me!
So I want to say thank you, thank you, thank you to all of my couples for helping make 2016 utterly wonderful. Without you guys 2016 may have been a very grey place due to no more Prince and too much Trump! Ja feel me? Word.
Choosing which pictures to post in my yearly wedding roundup is probably one of the most difficult things I have to do around this time of year. And I usually write my blog post AFTER choosing my pictures… however this year I’m doing it the other way round. I just want to show you a bunch of images that ring true with me. Images that I feel good about, images that my couples look amazing in, images that highlight the wonderful weirdness of their friends and families, images that show how much frigging fun a wedding can be, images that make my heart sing.
And I hope you enjoy them too <3
(P.S. Because I travelled SO much in 2016, I couldn’t possibly include all of my travel pics in this blog too, so I will be making separate blog posts for my trips to Morocco, Italy, New York, the Peak District etc… so look out for those over January, as well as lots of lovely advice and real weddings).
(P.P.S Also a massiiiiive thank you to all of my wonderful second shooters in 2016 – Clara Cooper Photography, James Andrew Photography, Matt Warrington Photography, Katy Mutch Photography, Project Valentine, Natalie Pluck | Photographer, May McQuillian’s Photography, Katie Dervin Photography & Jenn Brookes Photographer.)
(P.P.P.S I would also like to apologise to anyone who feels as though they are missing from my blog post. I promise you it was the hardest thing I’ve had to do all year – which is saying something – I actually had 479 favourites to start with, so getting it down to 136 was not a small feat. It has taken me about 2 weeks, all in all, doing, redoing, doing again… This is by no means a reflection on my feelings towards all of my couples/weddings, I loved every single one and you all hold a very dear place in my heart.)
